Programs that offer a wide variety of activities including arts and crafts, academic programs, sports, reading clubs, workshops and other recreational, leisure, cultural, social and civic activities for school-age children and youth in out-of-school hours. The objective of youth enrichment programs is to promote healthy social interaction and help participants maximize their social, emotional, physical and academic potential.

Youth Enrichment Programs

Programs that provide creative recreational experiences in cooperative indoor and/or outdoor group living for children, usually age four to 13, or adults who are transported to the site each morning and who return to their homes at the end of each day. Transportation may be provided by the program or may be the responsibility of the family.

Day Camps

Programs that focus broadly on juvenile delinquency prevention rather than replicating a specific approach such as Midnight Basketball that was developed elsewhere and has wide name recognition. These programs generally include education, recreation and community involvement activities in a variety of combinations but have as common objectives reducing known risk factors for delinquent behavior and giving young people more attractive alternatives.

General Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Programs

Camping programs that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing to serve as camp counselors or counselor aides on a voluntary basis without remuneration. Camp counselors and their aides are responsible for supervising a small group of campers, ensuring their well-being and health, instructing them in outdoor skills and associated safety procedures, planning recreational activities, organizing education and work projects and developing and implementing other projects and activities that contribute to the overall camping experience for participants.

Camp Counselor Volunteer Opportunities

Programs that offer a range of organized recreational activities, sports and games that people of all ages can learn, become competitive in and enjoy.

General Recreational Activities/Sports

Programs that provide a wide range of supervised recreational activities and delinquency prevention services for children and youth of all ages and backgrounds, but particularly for disadvantaged youth, through membership in boys and/or girls clubs. Club members are entitled to use recreational facilities and may have access to counseling, tutorial services, employment assistance, gang programs, drug abuse and alcoholism prevention and other activities and services that direct their energies toward positive social goals and facilitate healthy personality development.

Boys/Girls Clubs

Provides camps for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Includes week-long camp sessions throughout the summer and weekend adventures once a month the balance of the year. Offers campers a variety of experiences to promote positive self-esteem, teamwork, socialization, and healthy activities.

Camp Civitan | Camp Civitan

Residential or day camp facilities that are appropriately staffed and equipped to provide an opportunity for children or adults who have developmental disabilities, emotional disturbances or health impairments, or who have other limitations or problems which require special facilities or programming, to enjoy a cooperative indoor and/or outdoor living experience.

Therapeutic Camps

Programs that accept donations of paints, brushes, easels, canvases, paper, dyes, chalk, charcoal, colored pencils, clay, glass, wax, beads, pieces of wood, cutting tools, scraps of fabric and other tools and materials that are required for any of a variety of art or craft projects. The materials may be kept by the organization for use in its own program, sold to the general public or teachers (usually at discounted prices) or donated again to arts/crafts programs for use by the people they serve.

Arts and Crafts Donation Programs

Programs that accept cleaning equipment and/or supplies such as brooms, mops, dust pans, cleansing powder, dish washing soap, window cleaner, furniture polish and trash bags and keep them for use in their own programs, or donate them to other community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve.

Cleaning Product Donation Programs

Programs that accept any of a wide variety of new or secondhand recreational gear that is required to participate in an individual or team sport or game, repair the items if necessary, and keep them for use in their own programs, donate them to other community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve, or sell them to raise money for agency programs.

Sports Equipment Donation Programs

Provides support groups and camps for adults and children who have experienced a death loss. Offers presentations to the general public and in-services to the health care community.

Stepping Stones of Hope | Stepping Stones of Hope

Organizations that are actively seeking musicians, singers, actors, clowns, comedians, magicians and other performers who are willing to contribute their skills and work on a voluntary basis without remuneration on projects that help raise money for the organization or as a part of entertainment programs for the people it serves.

Performer/Musician Volunteer Opportunities

Mutual support groups whose members are children and youth who have experienced the loss of a parent, sibling or other relative and need the emotional support of the group to alleviate feelings of isolation and a sense of responsibility for the loss. The groups may meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet.

Bereaved Child Support Groups

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills who are willing to do general office work on a voluntary basis without remuneration.

Clerical Volunteer Opportunities

Mutual support groups whose members are families and friends of people who have died by suicide. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; and focus on helping participants overcome feelings of helplessness and responsibility for the actions of the individual so they can express their grief, move through the bereavement process and put their lives back together.

Suicide Loss Survivors Support Groups

Mutual support groups whose members are people who have experienced the loss of a family member, friend or other loved one as a result of murder or homicide. Those seeking support for their grief and loss may have been traumatized by the violent nature of the loss, intrusion of law enforcement, the press and others into their grief and by the realization that someone has deliberately taken the life of a loved one. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; and focus on helping participants overcome feelings of anger and pain so they can express their grief, move through the bereavement process and put their lives back together.

Families/Friends of Homicide Victims Support Groups

Mutual support groups whose members are parents who have experienced the loss of a child at any age. The reasons for loss may include miscarriage or stillbirth, or an illness or accident in infancy, during childhood or later in life. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; and focus on helping participants accept their loss, express their grief, move through the bereavement process and put their lives back together. Included are groups for parents who have lost a child to sudden infant death syndrome.

Bereaved Parent Support Groups

Mutual support groups whose members are adults who have experienced the loss of a parent. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; and focus on helping participants accept their loss, express their grief, and move through the bereavement process.

Adult Parental Loss Support Groups

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing to fill positions on an organization's advisory board, board of directors or board committees on a voluntary basis without remuneration.

Board/Committee Member Volunteer Opportunities

Programs that sponsor conferences, symposiums, seminars, workshops and other gatherings in which one or a variety of speakers are brought together to make presentations which address a particular human service topic with the objective of increasing participant awareness of the issues, problems and potential solutions that are facing residents of the community.

Workshops/Symposiums

Divisions of businesses or nonprofit agencies that are responsible for developing products or delivering designated services to the public. Departments of NGOs are generally led by a manager, supervisor, director or vice president.

Nongovernmental Agency Departments

Mutual support groups whose members are husbands, wives or other individuals who have experienced the loss of their marriage partner or significant other. Groups may also be structured for the surviving spouses of people in law enforcement, the military or other specific high-risk professions. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; and focus on helping participants accept their loss, express their grief, and move through the bereavement process. The groups also help members put their lives back together by providing practical information about legal issues, financial arrangements and other responsibilities of daily living.
