Dental Care Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing to work in a managerial capacity on a voluntary basis without remuneration.

Program Management Volunteer Opportunities

Programs that provide dental services to patients in rural communities, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, group homes, housing projects, private residences or other similar settings using portable equipment or large, specially equipped motorized vans or mobile trailers (non-motorized). Mobile dental services bring dental hygiene, preventive care and limited treatment services to people in remote areas who do not have immediate access to a dentist or dental clinic or are unable to leave their homes to seek care at a fixed clinic facility.

Mobile Dental Care

Divisions of businesses or nonprofit agencies that are responsible for developing products or delivering designated services to the public. Departments of NGOs are generally led by a manager, supervisor, director or vice president.

Nongovernmental Agency Departments

Provides a variety of harm reduction resources to people who use drugs in Maricopa County. Services includes free clean syringes and syringe disposal, Naloxone/Narcan, educational resources, and referrals to treatment.

Shot in the Dark | Shot in the Dark

Programs that provide sterile injection supplies and equipment to help prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B and C, and other blood borne infectious diseases; and prevent other health complications such as vein damage and infections. Items distributed may include new sterile needles with syringes, needle tips, syringes, acidifiers, alcohol swabs, chlorine disinfectant tablets, filters, stericups or cookers, saline, sterile water vials, sharps disposal containers, and tourniquets.  Also included are supplies for safe hormone injection for trans, gender diverse and two-spirited individuals who face unique barriers and inequitable access to gender-affirming health care services. Programs may offer supplies free of charge, in exchange for used ones; or sell new supplies.

Needle Exchange and Injection Supplies

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to organize, move and distribute donated goods to designated distribution points. Tasks including lifting boxes, loading pallets and/or handing out donated goods at a distribution center.

Donations Distribution Volunteer Opportunities

Programs that provide information about drug use (including the drugs most commonly used and their effects, the symptoms of related disorders, screening and diagnostic procedures and methods of treatment) and/or offer any of a variety of services that focus on drug use prevention for people of all ages who are at risk (i.e., who are currently in the light or experimental stage of using drugs; who are members of a drug using sibling, peer or family group; and/or who have behavioral and/or emotional problems at home, in school, in the community or with the criminal justice system). Included may be printed materials or videos that address the subject; psycho-educational and skill building activities; structured groups which focus on family dynamics, problem-solving, self-esteem and similar issues; and presentations in schools and agencies and to family groups regarding the dangers of drug use, the signs of related disorders, the legal consequences of drug use and how to get help.

Drug Use Disorder Education/Prevention

Programs that distribute Narcan or other similar substances that block the effects of opiates such as heroin, morphine, codeine, OxyContin, methadone, fentanyl and Vicodin but cannot themselves be used to get a person high. Opiate antidotes can be used to reverse the effects of an opiate overdose including restoring breathing that has stopped or slowed down, and may be distributed to opiate users to reduce the number of deaths that occur from opiate overdose.
