Provides clemency board hearing preparation, mitigation and expert witness services, time computations, interstate compact transfer assistance, release eligibility analysis, assistance on death penalty issues, analysis of applicability of new laws to currently sentenced offenders. Sponsors litigation and/or legislation to protect or define constitutional, civil, and administrative rights and responsibilities of incarcerated people and their supporters. Researches criminal justice issues for political candidates, attorneys, agencies, and other interested groups. Serves as a watchdog agency over state prisons and county jails.

Provides food, clothing, other basic needs, and school supplies to families and children in need. Encourages children to get involved in community projects. Provides adult role models for children in low income families. Offers after school activities and tutoring.
