Lakes and Ponds

Programs that develop, maintain and make available to the public, facilities that are set aside and equipped for vacationing individuals and families who are camping. Also included are private camp sites that are available for rental to groups. Camp sites are usually located in the mountains, forests, deserts or other recreational areas and vary greatly in the amenities that are available which may include water, showers, toilets, electrical hookups, picnic areas, firepits and/or a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational facilities.

Campgrounds

Programs that develop, preserve and make available to the public as scenic and/or recreational attractions natural underground chambers, most of which have special features such as stalactites and stalagmites (multicolored crystalline formations resembling icicles which extend downwards from the roof or sides of a cavern or jut up from the cavern's floor), underground rivers and pools, interesting flora and fauna and areas where ladder climbing, pool crossings, tight crawls and free climbing are required. Some caverns/caves are inhabited by bats providing visitors with an opportunity to view "bat flights" at certain times of the day. Staff-guided tours are available in most instances.

Large areas of special scenic, historic or scientific importance that are set aside by state government and preserved in their natural condition for public enjoyment and appreciation as well as for environmental study.
