RISE Program | RISE Program

Programs that provide a temporary place to stay (usually three days to two weeks), generally in dormitory-style facilities with very little privacy, for people who have no permanent housing.

Programs that develop, implement, assess and follow up on plans for the evaluation, treatment and/or care of people who are experiencing a specific, time-limited problem such as a transition from hospitalization to independent living and who need assistance to obtain and coordinate the support services that will facilitate the change.

Programs that maintain information about community resources that are appropriate for a specific target group or human services sector (for example, youth programs or addiction services) and which link individuals who are in need of specialized services with appropriate resources and/or which provide information about community agencies and organizations that offer specialized services.

Specialized Information and Referral

Government and nonprofit agencies that have positions within their organizations for individuals who have been convicted of an offense and ordered by the court to do community service in lieu of or in addition to incarceration, fines, restitution or other sanctions.

Court Ordered Community Service Sites

Organizations that operate vans and trucks which pick up and remove unwanted personal and household goods, office equipment and supplies and other items from homes and businesses.

Donation Pickups

Programs that accept new or secondhand clothing and layettes for infants and young children, repair the items if necessary, and keep the clothing for use in their own programs, donate it to shelters and other community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve, or sell it to raise money for agency programs.

Baby Clothing Donation Programs

Furniture/Home Furnishings Donation Programs

Provides emergency shelter and supportive services for anyone with or without custodial children who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking. Offers pet-friendly services and accepts pets at shelter in a limited capacity. Provides culturally specific services to the Hispanic community. Promotes are Spanish speaking only.

Mutual support groups whose members are individuals who have been sexually assaulted or have experienced incest as a child, their spouses or partners, other family members and friends. The groups provide emotional support, information and resources to help participants recover from their ordeal and may be structured specifically for male and female sexual assault survivors; individuals who have been sexually abused by physicians, therapists, religious authority figures or other trusted individuals; or male and/or female adults and teens who experienced incest or were sexually exploited as children. Groups may also be offered for perpetrators of sexual assault, child molestation or other sex crimes. Meeting formats may include in-person, telephone or Internet options.

Sexual Assault/Incest Support Groups

Programs that provide temporary emergency shelter for women who have been victimized by rape and/or other forms of sexual assault. Such facilities usually provide in-house individual, group and significant other counseling and the full range of other secondary services related to sexual assault including referral to appropriate resources.

Sexual Assault Shelters

Programs that provide temporary emergency shelter for individuals, primarily women, who have experienced domestic violence/abuse, and for their children. Such facilities usually provide in-house individual, group and family counseling and the full range of secondary services related to domestic violence including referral to appropriate resources. Also included are similar facilities for battered men and those that can accommodate both men and women, where they are available.

Domestic Violence Shelters

Programs that provide a safe, secure shelter environment for individuals who have been abducted, sold, recruited under fraud or pretense or otherwise brought under the control of another person, and forced, by means of threats, intimidation, violence or other forms of coercion, into unpaid or underpaid labor, servitude, prostitution or forced marriage, either domestically within their own country or internationally.

Human Trafficking Shelters

Programs that provide a variety of supportive services for victims of crimes and their families which may include general emotional support, crisis counseling, information about police investigative procedures, liaison to police personnel, assistance in completing and filing applications for reimbursement of crime-related expenses or losses, information about the mechanics of court proceedings, advice concerning court appearances, court accompaniment services, assistance in preparing victim impact statements and referrals for other needed services such as medical treatment, shelter away from home, transportation, child care, financial assistance and protective services.

General Crime Victim Assistance

Programs that supply dried or canned dog or cat food, bird seed, fodder or other types of sustenance for animals and other creatures that people keep as pets. Also included are programs that provide financial assistance that enables owners to purchase food for their pets.

Pet Food

Programs that pay the veterinary expenses, including prescription costs, of people who cannot afford to make the payments themselves and whose pets would otherwise be unable to receive necessary medical care. Also included are programs that provide vouchers which enable eligible individuals to obtain veterinary care including prescriptions for their pets.

Veterinary Care Expense Assistance

Organizations that make an effort to increase the availability and utilization of community services by specific target populations by providing direct services for targeted individuals in their homes or other convenient locations or by making special efforts to ensure that a particular group is aware of available services and encouraged to participate. Included are programs that do outreach regarding their own services as well as those which encourage a target population to use a wide variety of services.

Outreach Programs

Programs that provide educational workshops, printed materials, Internet website information or other types of resources for individuals, families, business owners and others that deal with the essentials of money management, asset building and financial independence. A wide variety of money management issues may be addressed including banking services, consumer credit lending, debt consolidation/repayment, bankruptcy, small business development, retirement planning, investment management, savings, risk management, tax and estate law and other similar topics.

Financial Literacy Training

Programs that attempt to reduce the incidence of date rape, verbal and physical abuse, threats of abuse and other forms of violence that occur between dating teens through a variety of educational interventions which may focus on potential victims and perpetrators; agency, school or health care personnel who work with them; or the community as a whole.  Activities may include classroom-based education, teacher workshops, parent workshops, peer leadership training, counseling groups for males who abuse or threaten a female peer, and community-based workshops for out-of-school youth. Programs may also be available for older people who are dating.

Dating Violence Prevention

Programs that provide support for battered women, sexual assault survivors and other victims of crimes by having a staff member go with them when they require a medical examination to gather evidence or need to visit a police station to file a complaint or appear in court to give evidence.
