Dental programs that provide self and professionally applied topical fluoride treatments and/or dietary fluoride supplements for people who use well water or live in an area where the community water supply has not been fluoridated. Fluoride supplements are available on a prescription basis, generally as a cavity prevention measure for children age six months to 16 years.

Fluoride Treatments/Supplements

Programs that provide primary oral health care for patients of all ages. General dentists are responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, management and overall coordination of specialized services related to the patient's oral health needs. Services generally include an oral health history, preventive dental cleanings, dental radiographs, oral cancer screening, an examination of the teeth to detect tooth decay or other problems, a periodontal examination to detect gum disease, dental restorations (e.g., fillings, crowns and implants), cosmetic dentistry, and other procedures such as fluoride treatment.

General Dentistry

Programs that provide dental examinations to detect tooth decay and periodontal problems, and oral hygiene information; but which refer out for cleaning, fillings, extractions and other necessary dental care.

Dental Screening

Programs that are staffed by specialists who are concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the tissues which surround the teeth.

Periodontics

Programs that offer preventive dental care including professional teeth cleaning and information about the proper daily self-care of the teeth to remove plaque, food and other residue that is associated with periodontal disease and tooth decay.

Dental Hygiene

Provides dental care for children and adults. Services include general cleaning, fluoride treatments, fillings, root canals, dentures, and emergency dental treatment. Also provides assistance to enroll in AHCCCS and SNAP (food stamps).

Pediatric Dentistry

Programs that specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the dental pulp and surrounding tissue.

Endodontics

Programs that provide immediate, short-term assistance for people who have lost a filling, broken or lost a tooth or dental prosthesis or who have other dental emergencies and are unable to wait for treatment on an appointment basis.

Emergency Dental Care

Students provide dental hygiene services to the general public. Includes exam, x-rays, teeth cleaning, whitening, and fluoride treatment. Does not provide fillings, pull teeth, make crowns, or offer dentures.
