Programs that offer the specialty in which all modalities of radiant energy are used for the detection of abnormalities throughout the body, often following the ingestion or injection of a radioactive or radiopaque substance that functions as a contrast medium. This includes but is not limited to imaging techniques and methodologies utilizing radiation emitted by x-ray tubes, radionuclides, thermagraphic devices, ultrasonic devices and radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation emitted by atoms.

Diagnostic Imaging/Radiology

Programs that evaluate joint motion, muscle strength and endurance, heart and lung function and the ability of people to perform activities of daily living; and utilize the therapeutic properties of exercise, heat, cold, electricity, ultraviolet, water, manipulation and massage to improve circulation, strengthen muscles, reduce pain and restore mobility to people who have been disabled by a stroke, arthritis, back or spinal cord injuries or other debilitating conditions. Physical therapists practice in a variety of settings including hospitals, private offices, outpatient clinics, rehabilitation centers, developmental centers, home health agencies, schools and pediatric centers.

Physical Therapy

Provides primary health care for children and adults. Includes physical exams, childhood and adult immunizations, treatment of illnesses and injuries, Pap smears, lab, x-rays, and pharmacy. Also provides space for visiting specialists including cardiology, ophthalmology, ultrasound, and physical therapy.

Programs that conduct microscopic studies of tissue samples from the cervix or vagina as a means of early cancer detection in women.

Pap Tests

Routine examinations conducted on an annual basis to assess the general physical condition of an individual and detect abnormalities. General physicals vary, but most involve a discussion of any concerns the patient may be having; checking vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, heart rate and respiration rate), weight and general appearance; heart and lung exams using a stethoscope; a head and neck exam that looks at the throat, teeth and gums, ears, sinuses, eyes, lymph nodes, thyroid and carotid arteries; an abdominal exam that uses palpation to detect liver size, the presence of abdominal fluid or tenderness; a visual examination of the extremities; and breast and pelvic exams for women, testicular and prostate exams for men. The annual physical exam also provides an opportunity to refocus attention on prevention and screening and routine laboratory tests may be suggested.

General Physical Examinations

Consumer-based, community-controlled, nonprofit outpatient facilities that provide basic health care including physical examinations, immunizations, family planning, nutrition assistance and diagnosis and treatment of common ailments for low income people, people who are homeless or uninsured/underinsured or other medically underserved populations that are geographically, economically and culturally challenged. Services are generally provided on an ability-to-pay basis. In the U.S., most community clinics are part of the network of Federally Qualified Health Centers, and many are known as "free clinics".

Community Clinics

Programs that inoculate infants and young children to prevent them from contracting diseases to which they are particularly susceptible including diphtheria, tetanus (lockjaw), measles, mumps, chicken pox (varicella), rubella (German measles), whooping cough (pertussis), Hib (haemophilus influenzae type B), hepatitis B, pneumococcal infections and polio. Hepatitis A vaccine is recommended for use in selected locales and for certain high-risk groups. Influenza vaccine is recommended annually for children older than six months with specific risk factors. Rotavirus vaccination (to prevent acute gastroenteritis with vomiting and severe diarrhea) is recommended during the first year of infancy. A baby should receive two or three doses depending on the brand used. Some childhood immunizations involve a series of doses at specific intervals.

Programs that inoculate the general population to prevent individuals from contracting diseases to which they are particularly susceptible, or to prevent infecting others at greater risk of severe illness, including newborns and young children, people who could become pregnant, older adults, and/or travelers, rather than specializing in a particular type of immunization.

Administers pregnancy care services in Chandler. Offers family planning services, free pregnancy tests, free ultrasounds, diapers, DES verifications, referrals, parenting classes, and assistance with material needs for women facing unplanned pregnancies.

Pregnancy Care Center | Pregnancy Care Center

Programs that provide educational and supportive services that help new parents or those expecting a child, to prepare them on an emotional and practical level for the impact the newborn will have on their lives and relationships. The programs are open to all parents. Initial focus areas include healthy eating for the mother, danger signs in pregnancy, sibling preparation and being ready for labor and delivery, followed by practical information on basic infant care, newborn behaviors, baby supplies, bathing techniques, diapering, breastfeeding and other feeding options, as well as infant and childhood illnesses. Later topics may include walking, talking, toilet training and other aspects of child development, all to help ensure that infants and toddlers are nurtured, live in a safe environment and receive proper health care.

General Expectant/New Parent Assistance

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing to fill positions on an organization's advisory board, board of directors or board committees on a voluntary basis without remuneration.

Board/Committee Member Volunteer Opportunities

Family planning programs, maternity homes, hospitals, birthing centers and other organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing to work, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, with individuals who are at risk for an unplanned pregnancy, are pregnant and considering their options, are pregnant for the first time or are having a difficult pregnancy and need emotional support, encouragement and practical advice. Volunteers may be asked to work on pregnancy prevention projects, provide pregnancy counseling services or other forms of support for young individuals who are pregnant or are at risk for pregnancy, or share their own experiences regarding pregnancy and childbirth with individuals who are pregnant for the first time or experiencing difficulties.

Programs that provide assistance for people who want to control the size of their families and the spacing of their children, usually through some form of birth control; who want to explore options for conceiving; who have a problem with infertility; or who have questions about the advisability of becoming pregnant or following through with a current pregnancy.
