Programs that distribute gun safety devices and provide secure storage solutions to enhance home and community safety, prevent suicide and accidents, and overall reduce the risk of gun related injuries. Devices may include lock boxes, safes, cable locks, and trigger locks. Programs may also reduce firearm access to individuals in crisis or at risk of suicide through a voluntary temporary transfer of firearms to an offsite storage facility such as a local law enforcement agency, licensed retailer, or other secure location.

Clerical Volunteer Opportunities

Programs that provide emergency rescue operations and/or lifesaving activities for people who are stranded, lost, accident victims or exposed to other life threatening dangers.

Emergency Rescue

Programs that maintain and, where appropriate, provide access to the official statement of facts related by people who have reported, witnessed or were otherwise involved in a traffic accident or crime and filed by the official(s) who took the statement. Police reports can generally be released to the crime victim and the individual who filed the report, if other than the victim. Information about juveniles and victims is protected by law and is not released.

Programs that provide a hotline, website or other mechanism that people can use to report any of a wide variety of crimes rather than specializing in reports regarding a particular type of criminal activity.

General Crime Reporting

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to provide support for law enforcement and/or judicial authorities. Volunteers in this position must be empowered by law to investigate or conduct an official inquiry into potential violations of the law; make arrests, when warranted; and/or or conduct criminal, civil, or administrative proceedings arising from an alleged violation of the law. Included are police officers, investigators, tribal authorities, community corrections agency personnel, probation officers, campus authorities and others with law enforcement credentials who wish to volunteer their services.
