Programs that provide information about a wide variety of options which help citizens protect themselves from crime rather than specializing in a particular type of crime prevention.

General Crime Prevention Programs

Programs that maintain and, where appropriate, provide access to the official statement of facts related by people who have reported, witnessed or were otherwise involved in a traffic accident or crime and filed by the official(s) who took the statement. Police reports can generally be released to the crime victim and the individual who filed the report, if other than the victim. Information about juveniles and victims is protected by law and is not released.

Police Reports

Law enforcement personnel who are responsible for the protection of students and staff while they are accessing educational programs or delivering educational services at local elementary and secondary schools. School district police are also responsible for the protection of property belonging to the district.

School District Police

Provides crime prevention information, police reports, neighborhood block watch, and citizen ride alongs. The School Resource Officer and the DARE Program offer drug use prevention education for junior high and high school students.

Programs that provide information about drug use (including the drugs most commonly used and their effects, the symptoms of related disorders, screening and diagnostic procedures and methods of treatment) and/or offer any of a variety of services that focus on drug use prevention for people of all ages who are at risk (i.e., who are currently in the light or experimental stage of using drugs; who are members of a drug using sibling, peer or family group; and/or who have behavioral and/or emotional problems at home, in school, in the community or with the criminal justice system). Included may be printed materials or videos that address the subject; psycho-educational and skill building activities; structured groups which focus on family dynamics, problem-solving, self-esteem and similar issues; and presentations in schools and agencies and to family groups regarding the dangers of drug use, the signs of related disorders, the legal consequences of drug use and how to get help.

Drug Use Disorder Education/Prevention

Programs whose primary purpose is to introduce the public to the activities involved in community policing by allowing citizens to "ride along" in a patrol car with a policeman or woman while on duty.

Police Ride Along Programs

Programs that encourage total community involvement in discouraging preventable crime by organizing awareness meetings to help neighbors get to know one another and look out for each other, learn to secure their property, and recognize and report suspicious activity. Technical assistance may also be provided. Included are Park Watch programs that encourage residents to be on the lookout for and report vandalism or other criminal activity in local parks.

Neighborhood Watch Programs

Provides police reports, animal control services, fingerprinting, and information on crime prevention. Assigns police officers to local schools for the School Resource Officer Program.

Buckeye Police Department Community Services | Buckeye Police Department Community Services

Programs that make complete sets of fingerprints for teachers, child care providers, people requiring a security clearance and other individuals whose licensing or employment requires that they have fingerprints on file.

Employment Related Fingerprinting

Programs that pick up and impound or return to their owners domestic animals who have strayed from their homes. Also included are programs that enforce leash laws and animal sanitation ordinances and those that handle complaints regarding domestic animals who have bitten someone or are otherwise making nuisances of themselves. Most animal control programs are unable to handle nuisance wildlife unless the animal is sick or shows symptoms of rabies.
