Also includes friendly phone calls and visits, small home repairs, help to sort mail and pay bills, respite to relieve caregivers, personal emergency alert devices, transitional care in conjunction with Northern Arizona Health, pet assistance, and information about and referrals to community resources. Offers assistance in use of technology such as cell phones, computers, notebooks, etc.

Programs that provide door-to-door (or curb-to-curb) transportation for purposes of shopping, banking, social events, medical appointments, getting to and from work, and similar activities for people with disabilities who need special accommodations and are unable to utilize other available means of transportation. Also included are programs that provide transportation for youngsters with disabilities who have no other means of accessing necessary specialized services and activities. Some but not all vehicles used for this purpose are equipped with wheelchair lifts.

Disability Related Transportation

Programs that develop plans for the evaluation, treatment and/or care of individuals who, because of age, illness, disability or other difficulties, need assistance in planning and arranging for services; which assess the individual's needs; coordinate the delivery of needed services; ensure that services are obtained in accordance with the case plan; and follow up and monitor progress to ensure that services are having a beneficial impact on the individual. Case management is a collaborative process characterized by communication, advocacy and resource management to promote high quality, cost-effective interventions and outcomes.

Case/Care Management

Programs that use "friendly visitors" (usually volunteers but also paid hourly companions) to call on people who are hospitalized or in another institutional setting, who are homebound or socially isolated due to disability or old age, or otherwise lack companionship with the objective of brightening their day and helping them to maintain contact with the outside world by reading, talking, listening, writing letters or performing other similar tasks.

Friendly Visiting

Programs that provide a variety of minor home repair services for homeowners who qualify. Specific services vary by organization but include such things as fixing leaky pipes and faucets; clearing clogged drains; replacing broken switches, sockets and electrical fixtures; changing light bulbs; fixing or replacing door locks and handles; replacing broken screen doors or window panes; installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and changing batteries; making minor repairs on stair treads; replacing carpet threshold strips; and replacing furnace filters.

General Minor Home Repair Programs

Programs that provide electronic equipment which connects frail elderly individuals, people who have disabilities or people at risk of violence from an ex-partner with the police, participating hospitals, paramedics or other sources of emergency assistance. 

Personal Alarm Systems

Senior centers and other organizations that are actively seeking individuals who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to help people who are socially isolated due to disability or old age relieve their loneliness by telephoning them on a regular basis to listen, talk and help them maintain contact with the outside world.

Friendly Telephoning Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to serve as home health aides or substitute caregivers who provide temporary or intermittent care for dependent adults or children in their own homes in order to provide a brief period of rest or relief for parents, family members, guardians or others who are their regular caregivers.

Respite/Home Health Care Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to make minor repairs to the homes of older adults, people with disabilities, low income individuals and others the organization serves. Typical services include repair or replacement of broken doors and windows; accessibility improvements such as ramps and hand railings; correction of safety hazards such as repairs to porches, steps and sidewalks; home security improvements such as fences, security doors and smoke detectors; habitability improvements such as replacement of sinks, toilets and floor tiles; and interior and exterior painting.

Handyworker Volunteer Opportunities

Programs that provide a brief period of rest or relief for family members, guardians or others who are regular caregivers for dependent adults by offering temporary or intermittent care for the adult in their own home.

Adult In Home Respite Care

Senior centers and other organizations that are actively seeking individuals who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to help people who are socially isolated due to disability or old age relieve their loneliness by visiting them in their homes on a regular basis to read, talk, listen, write letters or perform other tasks that help them maintain contact with the outside world.

Home Visit Volunteer Opportunities

Programs that offer the services of individuals who are available to make short trips to purchase groceries, pick up prescriptions, withdraw or deposit money in the bank, drop off or retrieve laundry and do other small tasks for older adults, people with disabilities and other individuals who cannot leave their homes or are otherwise unable or prefer not to perform these tasks for themselves.

Errand Running/Shopping Assistance

Divisions of businesses or nonprofit agencies that are responsible for developing products or delivering designated services to the public. Departments of NGOs are generally led by a manager, supervisor, director or vice president.

Nongovernmental Agency Departments

Programs that provide door-to-door (or curb-to-curb) transportation for purposes of medical appointments, shopping, banking, social events, and other similar activities for older adults who need special accommodations and are unable to utilize other available means of transportation.

Senior Ride Programs

Programs that provide transportation for medical appointments, trips from and between hospitals, to nursing homes or other special-care centers or for other non-emergency medical needs for individuals who, because of financial problems or their physical condition, are unable to use other means of local transportation. NEMT service providers are able to transport riders who require a wheelchair lift equipped vehicle with appropriate protective restraints or a van that is designed for gurney/stretcher transportation, or has other types of features to meet their safety needs.

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

Programs that provide instruction for individuals of all ages who want to learn about or perfect their skills in using computers, computer-related hardware and specific home and business applications including word processing, spreadsheet development, presentation development, database management, electronic publishing and image processing. Included are both introductory classes for people unfamiliar with computers and the Internet and more advanced courses, as well as programs that provide instruction in the use of related technology such as smartphones and social media. Instruction may focus on publishing tools such as blogs, video logs (vlogs), photo sharing, podcasting or wikis.  

Computer Literacy Training Programs

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with a valid driver license and current insurance who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to make short trips to purchase groceries, pick up prescriptions, withdraw or deposit money in the bank, drop off or retrieve laundry and do other small tasks for people who have disabilities and frail elderly individuals who cannot leave their homes or are otherwise unable to perform these tasks for themselves. Also included are volunteer opportunities in markets or similar establishments for people who are willing to deliver groceries to homes of frail elderly individuals or people with disabilities who are unable to go out and shop on their own behalf, and volunteer positions in organizations who have a need for couriers or people to run other types of errands.

Errand Running/Shopping Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that provide personal business assistance for people who are having difficulty handling their monetary affairs. Tasks may include sorting mail, paying bills, preparing checks for clients to sign, managing bank accounts, organizing tax documents and other records, interpreting medical insurance papers and verifying proper processing of claims, negotiating with creditors, and making referrals to legal, tax and investment professionals, as required.

Daily Money Management Services

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with a valid driver license and current insurance who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to transport individuals/clients to medical appointments, the pharmacy, the market, the bank, social events or other destinations.

Paratransit Driver Volunteer Opportunities

Programs that help people who are socially isolated due to disability or old age or otherwise lack companionship relieve their loneliness by arranging for people (usually volunteers) to telephone them on a regular basis to listen, talk and help them maintain contact with the outside world.
